Urmila Janardan is a research assistant at Upturn. Her current focus is technology in job recruitment and new housing policies. She previously wrote a senior thesis on the potential for racial discrimination in targeted advertising systems. Urmila generally cares about how technology can be leveraged to further, rather than obstruct, the empowerment of marginalized groups.
Urmila was in the first graduating class at the Minerva Schools, where she graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Statistics. She has also dabbled in consulting, venture capital, education and bioengineering work.
